The following is a list of possible solutions to some of the issues one may experience with AD/HD 

memory:

  • use of reminder systems for appointments and tasks
  • use of constant time management strategies
  • mobile computing i.e. note taking - PDAS (Palm or Pocket PC), cell phones (Blackberries, Sony Ericcson), iPod
  • voice recorders for notes and easy access to review ideas and thoughts later
  • Use calendars to keep track of long-term assignments
  • Use of software such as DragonNaturally Speaking or NaturalReader to better engage yourself while you learn

organization (time, space and ideas):

  • Graphic Organizer Application Software i.e. Inspiration, Mind Meister (free online application)
  • Visual Strategies - everything needs a space or planned time slot, with pre and post planning and travel time
  • Colour Coding - use of highlighters, and sticky notes
  • Time Management Software - MS Outlook
  • White Boards 
  • Break large projects into chunks and assign time frames for completing each of those chunks
  • Decide what the most essential tasks is for your you and limit yourself to the essentials
  • Use of software such as DragonNaturally Speaking or NaturalReader to better engage yourself while you learn

attention:

  • Consider having separate work areas for different activities like a kindergarden classroom
  • use of sound constants like the noise created by a fan or white noise machines or music to drown out other noises
  • focused lighting
  • Headphones
  • medication
  • ear plugs
  • use of private rooms for "exam like" activities
  • request quiet room to work or work at home (if you are not getting paid for your presence but your contributions)
  • Minimize clutter
  • active stress control i.e. daily excercise, meditation, yoga - to help stay grounded
  • Use of software such as DragonNaturally Speaking or NaturalReader to better engage yourself while you learn
